I cannot recall exactly when it began, but somehow I developed a sense—a kind of instinct—to see things from a “God’s Eye View” in an attempt to gain a higher perspective and understand issues from a broader context.
Before I go on, here’s a little disclaimer: for simplicity, I’m calling it God or my God, but please feel free to substitute that with the Universe, Divine Cosmos, Divine Consciousness, the Creator, or whatever resonates with you.
Okay, continuing—
The more chaotic the world seems to be, the more I pull myself back to observe it from above. I tend to view social movements as phenomena, rather than getting caught up in the details of each event. I ask questions like, “Why is this happening, especially from God’s point of view?” or “What does this mean in our history?” Of course, my questions aren’t always answered—or I can’t be 100% certain about the answers that feel right. Regardless, life goes on, and time reveals what it will.
When you look closely at human history, you can trace God’s presence throughout—if you choose to see it. That’s why I’m inclined to focus on why things are happening and where we’re headed collectively. I zoom in and out of the historical timeline. When you zoom in, you see each event. When you zoom out, you begin to follow the path of history—and you may notice that it repeats to a certain degree.
Every now and then, I reflect on my own life in a similar way and ask myself, “What does this mean?” “Why is this happening again?!” “What lessons am I supposed to learn?” It can be challenging to view my life from high above when I’m in the midst of it. Yet, when I do, I can trace God’s presence in my life too—because I choose to.
Looking back, my God was there for me—and with me. I didn’t always feel He was there, but He was. Sometimes, I could sense God’s wishes for me, but I didn’t choose the best options. As a result, things took much longer to manifest. On the other hand, there were many occasions when my wishes were not fulfilled—no matter how hard I tried. And then, years later, something bigger and better happened. It was as if God had something greater in store for me, but I wasn’t ready or prepared to receive it.
I have a friend who always says, “God gives you what you need, not what you want.” So true!
Let me share a small, almost silly example.
In my mid-20s, there was a time when I had only $100 in my bank account. I didn’t own a car, and one day a neighbor gave me a ride. She was driving a Jetta. I remember thinking, “This is the car I want to drive someday. This is my dream car.”
Thirty-some years later, I bought a Jetta.
Honestly, I had forgotten all about that wish—until the moment I was signing the purchase contract at the dealership. At that moment, I felt that God had remembered my wish.
Looking from a God’s Eye View—
How would you see your life?
Do you sense His wishes, desires, and plans for you?
Where is He guiding you?
In which direction is He nudging you?
You know He has wishes for you, right?!
If you’re a parent, it may be easy to relate to His side of the story. I’m sure you’ve had moments when you’ve said to your child, “I know this is the best way for you, but it’s up to you to choose.”
Know this: the Divine Cosmos has plans for you.
You are included in its design.
It has your back.
